Copper Country Curling Club Reaches $32,000 Fundraising Goal
The Drill Shop, also known as the Copper Country Curling Club, successfully raised a total of $32,000 which will be matched by the MDEC. The CCCC plans to re-purpose the entire building and create a year round activity      and curling center. The project will consist of 4 parts: (1) making the entire building handicap accessible                  throughout - the building entrance will be upgraded, and concrete will be poured in sections of the building that        still have the original dirt floor (2) a large barrier-free bathroom will be installed to replace the small bathroom        that is currently there (3) a central community room will be built that will be shared by all building users - this          room will replace the 8 by 12 foot structure that the curling club currently uses as its warming room (4) 3          large activity bays will be developed to accommodate - hockey shooting and goal tending, batting and pitching        area for baseball and softball, and an area for two regulation horse shoe courts. The community room will be a          necessity for developing a Junior curling program for area youth and will be open for people to stop in to view        curling. Located right next to the Calumet Schools, the Drill Shop will be able to provide new activities for gym            classes and for the C-L-K Great Explorations program. Construction has already begun and should be ready for the club's start of the season in December.
