4. U.S.C.A. Update: Badgero, MacleanDues are going up $2/curler –

  • USOC funding for high performance curlers.  The plan is on the USCA website.
  • Member Services – shifts changing with respect to curling season heading towards year around curling
  • Can we change GLCA meetings to better fit the USCA meeting schedule
  • USCA schedule – Fall is in September,  Spring is in late April, early May
  • There will be a USCA townhall meetings.
  • Can there be a way to get focus towards the club curler?

5. Playdowns Update:

  • 2011 dates: Jan 14, 15, 16 GLCA M/W at Mayfield- No POC yet
  • Feb 4, 5, 6 GLCA Mixed at Columbus- Karen Hamilton Chair
  • March 19-26 Mixed National Championships at Midland- John Zimmerman Chair
  • Btwn Xmas & New Years  Juniors  at Midland
  • Robb Borland will set up a new
  • Motion to buy $400 ad in Mixed National programme

6. Training Instructors

7. New Clubs – (new club representatives welcome to attend meeting.)

  • Ft. Wayne CC, application submitted
    •    Motion: Paul Badgero
    •    Second: Wes Hoffman
    •    Acceptance: unanimous
    •   Craig Fisher - First spiel this weekend.  First time curling since 1800s.
    •   Trying to establish a Special Olympic programme
    •   Looking for junior stones
    •   65 members expected
  •   Troy CC, application attached
    •   Motion: Karen Hamilton
    •   Second: Sandra Takata
    •   Acceptance: unanimous
    •   Bruce Clingman– Curled 6 weeks, 130 tried, group of 24 to start
    •   Borrowing stones for the moment
  •   Cincinnati CC, application may be available by 8/20.
    •   They are started and have curled. At this time, they just have paperwork to submit.
  •   Lansing, MI update
    •   Looking for an arena.
  •   Grand Rapids CC
    •   No news.

8. GLCA rocks

  • 2 sets GLCA rocks loaned to Cincinnati January 2010
  • Agreement valid to the end of the 2011 season.  Depending on need at that time, we will re-look at the agreement.
      • Motion to approve: Robb Borland

      • Vote: Unanimous.
  • Same rocks loaned by Cincinnati to Troy OH for the summer
  • One set is back to Cincinnati.
  • Should GLCA acquire more loaner rocks, and what is available?
  • Standard operating procedures need to be established.  Sandra will take lead.
  • Discussion on how to finance rocks.

9. Governance

  • Add to by-laws definition of term for the executive member at large.
  • Discussion of numbers of reps to the GLCA  John Zimmerman
    •    Suggests 3 directors at the 120 member level.
    •    Suggests 2 directors at a lower level.
    •    Gordon and John will review the numbers.
  •   January 15, 2011: GLCA solicits all clubs for 2011-12 GLCA Board;
  •   also, Nominations for 2011-13 Officers, election at May 2011 meeting

10.  Club Commentary/Calendar

  • Bowling Green – Scott Piroth
    • Arena is under renovations and on schedule. 
    • They are unlikely to host spiels.
  • Cleveland SC-  Tom Seitz
    • Last weekend in January for bonspiel
    • Stable membership
    • All summer curling had been cancelled due to ice conditions
    • Scottish women will be curling at SC
    • Circle City –Wes Hoffman
    • They have ice time again and hoping to have better ice.  Curling on 4 sheets.
  • Columbus – Karen Hamilton
    • Open spiel December 11-12.  Beers of the World theme.
    • Hosting mixed playdown
    • March – will have women’s bonspiel
    • Hoping to start the season with 200-220 members
  • Copper Country-  Gord Maclean/ Paul Eisenman
    • Feb 18, 19, 20 open spiel
    • Grand Match – 30-40 end game on a Saturday
  • Delta –
  • Detroit - Ben Levy
    • 125th year of the club
    • Fundraiser – 125 end game starting Friday night and hoping to end Sunday morning.
    • Jan 27-29 – Mens International
    • Jan 16th? Scottish women’s
    • Feb 5th ladies 1 day
    • Feb – Mixed international
    • Purchasing new stones but has old ones for sale.
    • Planned learn 2 curls are full.
    • Trying to resurrect a junior programme.
    • Scottish women will be curling at DCC
  • GSMCC –  Sandra Takata
    • Rocky Top was successful again this year.
    • Learn 2 curl for 40 new curlers ran June and July.
    • We ran a curling bott camp for the Atlanta Club in Knoxville.
    • Talking to a Canadian Expat network to promote curling.
  • Kalamazoo- Rick Thomas
    • Nationals was a success and says thanks
    • Club is growing.
    • Learn 2 curls are full.
  • Lewiston- John Zimmerman
    • Feb 25-27  International spiel is now open
    • Mayfield –Robb Borland
    • January playdowns
    • Oct will have ice
    • Nov 11-14 Men’s Spiel
    • Feb 24-27 - Evergreen
  • Midland-  John Zimmerman
    • Excited to get Nationals
    • Ice in October and will be trying pre-printed sheets (Hack to Hack Solutions).  First installation in US.  $4k per sheet.
    • Will be doing spiel with Lewiston
