3. Treasurer’s Report: John Zimmerman

    Balance:$2232.06
    926 members
    Dues payment good – another year of increased membership
    Head count was in time to preserving our 2 GLCA directors to the USCA
    Recommend St George CC to be listed as under development on the website.
    Remember to make sure that all clubs respond to update USCA on contacts etc to insure USCA is distributing correct club info.
    Recommend discussion of numbers of reps to the GLCA for Fall meeting.  John will be the point person. Please discuss any issues/recommendations with John.  Board will discuss in the fall. Note- 1-39 members is 1 director 40-59 is 2 directors, 60 plus is 3.

4. U.S.C.A. Update: Badgero, Maclean

    Midland – Host Mixed Nationals 2011?  They are willing.
    Jerome Larson –
    Stones – 26 sets coming in.  Apply ASAP – Circle City and Cincinatti has applied.
    Getting GNCC stones agreement – GNCC actually rent stones out.  We should consider that kind of programme.

5. Old Business:

    Kalamazoo Nationals:  Tom Seitz got to see/train on ice making and try the ice.
    Arena was the drivers to get the Nationals with hope to host the Worlds.
    John Zimmerman went to officiate.  Numbers of GLCA officials increased.

    Playdown  Update:2010 Detroit – No update for the moment.
    Thanks to Robb for developing playdown procedures.
    Robb – No issues this year.  Do not want to extend our schedule too far since clubs are dynamic.
    2011 dates : Jan 14, 15, 16 M/W
    Feb 4, 5, 6 Mixed

6. New Business

    Training

      Officials – Paul Badgero is point person– Cleveland is looking to setup clinic.  CSC is hosting USWCA Nationals.
      Training - Instructors – Scott prepared to set up clinics. Ft Wayne is inquiring
      Oct 23 – Instructors in Midland
      Oct 24 – Skills clinic in Midland

    New Clubs – Aid

      Lot of interest due to Olympics, so, many new clubs are springing up.
      Refer to the nearest club as a mentor.
      Training – Conducting clinics or training the trainer
      Administrative –paperwork help
      Loaner Rocks – set up a more definitive agreement

    Ft Wayne – Craig

      Olympics – helped raise interest
      A new facility was built so now ice availability came up
      Plan on including wheelchair curling
      4 board members, with 200 on their mailing list – targeting 40 members to sign up for this year
      Have ice set up for the next year.  2 hours every 2nd Saturday afternoon, 2 hours Monday nights for beginner’s league.  Aug 22nd bonspiel?
      Ice rental is $279/hour
      League in fall in winter Monday & Saturday nights

    Cincinnati – Greg Bank

      Got info from USCA
      Have GLCA loaner rocks
      Started as 1 person
      Already had a facility at winter club and got TV and radio coverage
      Had 300 people try curling
      Start adult leagues and youth leagues.
      Targeting 60 – 100 curlers in the fall.

    Circle City:  Ron

      How structure fees?  Can we get dialogue going?
      For more established clubs think about extra brooms etc. members may have to donate to club
      Encourage newer curlers with lower first year fees.  Structure clubs dues to fit individual club situation – Dedicated vs Arena vs Country Club are very different

    Club Commentary/Calendar

      Bowling Green – Scott Piroth

        Ice arena is under construction
        Will be multi-use facility
        3 nights only and reduce to 3 sheets
        No Early Bird – the construction is behind.
        Will still host fall meeting
        Expect to lose fall league.
        Looking for spaces.
        Had 400 come through after Olympics.

      Cleveland SC – Donna Dickenson

        Huge numbers came to come through
        USWCA – USA/Canada tournament
        Will host Scottish women

      Circle City – Ron Geidt

        Great turn out from Olympics
        Have been doing corporate learn 2 curls
        Extended curling season to mid-May.

      Columbus – Karen Hamilton

        Cancelled women’s bonspiel – too close to Olympics
        Ran 1000 through open houses
        300 joined learn 2 curls.
        Anticipating 200 members in the fall
        Open spiel 2nd weekend in Dec
        Open spiel 2nd weekend in Mar
        Mixed PD
        Offered to let BG CC early bird.

      Copper Country-  Gord Maclean

        Membership down
        Did pick up new curlers
        Local TV coverage helped get open house activity
        Copperspiel – on you-tube look for Copperspiel 2010
        Trying to work with township to keep facility.
        Spiel is in February
        Held open houses for hockey teams and corporate functions.
        College club went to College Nationals

      Delta – Kathy Kohtala

      Detroit – Quinn Smith

        Membership even by end of year.
        Learn 2 curl for the next season is fully booked.
        Opening last Thursday in October.
        Looking at buying new stones or re-cutting stones.

      GSMCC – Sandra Takata

        Leagues are full
        Good season

      Midland- John Zimmerman, Mike Graves

        Good year.
        Still excited with their new facility.
        Have more novice curlers then they can handle
        Mens league is 2 draws, Women’s may go to 2 draws.  Have had novice sessions and bringing them into leagues.
        They are looking at sending juniors to playdowns.  CSC may have juniors.

7. Next Meeting – September 25th, 2010, Bowling Green, OH.

    If not curling Saturday afternoon in BG
    Columbus and Bowling Green will coordinate possibility of having the Early Bird at CCC and having the meeting in Columbus and continue to have meeting in conjunction with spiel.
